We have been raising Australian Cattle Dogs since 1998. Unfortunately we found that most of the Cattle Dogs in the West have health problems due to poor breeding and decided that we wanted to change that.
We have spent a significant amount of time seeking out the best kennels across the nation. We make sure that our breeding stock have good blood lines and are fully health tested. It is important to us that we raise beautiful healthy dogs with good personalities and working drive. Even if you are not looking for a working dog, it should still have the right traits and drive.
Here at the Rundown Ranch our dogs are a part of our family. We take pride in raising nice puppies that will be suitable for most lifestyles. We do request that anyone interested in a cattle dog do their research first, to make sure this is the right breed for you and your family.
We require our puppies to stay with us until they are 8-10 weeks old to give them the best possible start. We do not and will NOT dock tails. It is an AKC breed standard, and we believe they use their tail to assist with their balance. When you purchase a puppy from Rundown Ranch Cattle Dogs, it will be registered with the AKC. It will be de-wormed and will have had its age-appropriate vaccinations with documentation. Learn about what makes our program unique on our puppy program page.
All of our Australian Cattle Dog Puppies are treated like family and are handled daily. We take a little bit different approach to feeding and healthcare than most breeders. We don’t just look at the cost of care, we look at the quality first and foremost. All of our dogs are insured through Trupanion and each puppy from a litter will come with limited benefits.
Here at the Rundown Ranch we only feed raw diets once the puppy reaches 12 months of age. During the transition from mother’s milk to raw, we feed a combination of a top quality natural kibble and raw food. Even their treats and bones are important. We found a quality commercial treat that consists of only 5 natural ingredients with no colors or fillers. And you can always find a raw beef bone or two (or three or more) laying around for them to gnaw. Bones provide important nutrients from the marrow and help keep their teeth clean and white. They fulfill their need to chew and also help prevent chewing on the wrong things. Like people, dogs need additional vitamins and supplements. Cattle dogs are active and require joint care from an early age to minimize arthritis and joint related issues. We regularly do blood work to monitor their overall health. Our dogs are in excellent condition and it shows in their coats and annual exams.
Let me start by saying that Brenda was the light I needed! She made me feel 100% positive without any doubt she is legitimate and serious about her dogs. Brenda was very honest and very knowledgeable about the breed. She explained everything about the screening and early trainings her dogs receive, she goes above and beyond to inform you. I was able to facetime with her to see my puppy and call her with all my questions. She answered all my questions in great detail. She was very responsive and caring , made the whole thing effortless. I would recommend her over and over again. Our boy Wrangler is absolute perfection. He is so smart and so happy! We have had no health issues , and I know that is because of how thorough Brenda is with her process. All in all we could not be happier with the choice we made with our puppy and Brenda.

Getting my puppy from Brenda has been a fantastic experience, and I can wholeheartedly recommend anyone looking for a heeler of their own to consider Rundown Ranch Cattle Dogs. Oso has been with me 7 weeks when writing this, but he is learning rapidly and growing into a puppy I'm very proud to own! While raising a cattle dog is an effort and requires daily commitment to the process, it was apparent from the beginning that Oso had been given a great start on life and behavioral foundations like his daily schedule, crate training, and emotional reactions had been cultivated in a healthy manner before coming with me. I feel like Oso and I have been setup for success!

Nothing but RAVES for Brenda and Rundown Ranch Cattle Dogs! Seriously, best experience ever. Indie has been a fantastic puppy, and addition to our family. Brenda was so incredibly knowledgeable and helpful with my questions about this breed and how to care for our puppy. Not to mention how much she knew about other ACD breeders across the nation! Crate training went beautifully and it’s obviously because of how much work and care Brenda had already put into her puppies. We loved being able to visit Indie early on and meeting both parents! Her dogs are obviously so loved and it’s passed down to her puppies. Again, I cannot say enough as to how amazing Brenda was- I will always recommend Rundown Ranch Cattle Dogs. Thank you so much for my Indie girl!

Cannot say enough good things about Brenda and Rundown Ranch Cattle Dogs. We visited our puppy Howdy multiple times before taking him home and saw firsthand how deeply loved and cared for all of the dogs and puppies are. She is also a wealth of knowledge on diet and early interaction advice and was very patient with my tons of questions. It gave me great confidence knowing that our puppy Howdy would be raised in his early weeks in such a caring environment. We were prepared for all the classic puppy tropes of no sleep and a destroyed house, but we have been blown away at how well-adjusted and confident our little guy is. Three nights in we had a full night of sleep. A testament to his breeding and his early upbringing to be sure. Howdy is an absolute joy and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Rundown Ranch to anyone looking for a ACD to add to their family.

I am a ski patrol avalanche dog handler. I reached out to Brenda for her help to find a high drive curious female. Brenda kept an eye on the litter for me and helped pair me with the one I needed. We had planned to visit the litter at 7 weeks but had to change plans due to weather. She did a Volhard test and sent me the video instead. Super helpful, very friendly, and cares a lot about her dogs.

I absolutely love this dog. He is smart, brave, and lovable. He is very socialized and is accepting of almost anything you ask of him. His recall is almost perfect at this point unless it involves food. He is my best friend. Rundown Ranch has some really great breeding dogs. Of all the ACD's I've had he definitely ranks in the top. Thanks so much for what you do.
